LKF by Rhombus, a designer dream hotel in Central Hong Kong

One of the better things about the global recession for travellers is that hotel room rates have tumbled, affording the opportunity to pay less for more luxury. It is a great time to find a bargain.

Step forward the LKF by Rhombus, a 29-story boutique designer hotel towering above Hong Kong’s trendy nightclub district Lan Kwai Fong with a mere 95 particularly spacious rooms and suites. Hong Kong hotels can be a tad claustrophobic but not this gem of luxury minimalist design. You get a minimum of 45 square metres.

Top-spec rooms

The rooms are superbly equipped, including a 42-inch TV, walk-in shower and bath tub. Choose a corner room for the best specification and stay high to avoid street noise.

On the 29th floor is a cavernous, two-level, uber-cool reception space which is a loud nightclub after 11pm and then turns into a breakfast room-with-a-view and an outdoor terrace. There is also lunch and dinner in this stylish salon.

Location, location

This hotel scores highly on location. You have the bars and restaurants of Lan Kwai Fong on your doorstep, and you are also right in the heart of the business and shopping districts.

Take an Airport Express into Central and this is an easy walk, although it is uphill and in the relatively high humidity of Hong Kong not really advisable. A cab is the solution.

You really could not wish for a finer base to tackle the delights of Hong Kong whether for business or pleasure or both. Perhaps the recession will fill hotels from the top down, and this is a great time to enjoy great hotels and bargain prices.
