Restaurant review: BiCE Mare, Dubai Old Town

Posted on 12 January 2010 with no comments from readers

For the perfect view of the Burj Khalifa and the magnificent Las Vegas style fountain display the best place to sit is on the terrace of the new BiCE Mare restaurant at the end of the Old Town Island.

Those familiar with the restaurants of Dubai will probably know the sister BiCE restaurant in the Hilton Hotel on the Jumeirah beach.

Mama Mia

Originally a single restaurant in Milan run by the mother of the chain’s founder Roberto Ruggeri, BiCE is positioned right at the top of the spectrum of Italian cuisine. The BiCE Mare as the name suggests is dedicated to seafood.

But there are all the usual Italian specialties from thin-crust pizza to ravioli with wild mushrooms doused in truffle oil. Your side bread selection is also of the highest quality with a choice of olive oil dips.

Migrate onwards to the generous main courses with multiple fish options if you are hungry, or go for the delicious spaghetti served in the style of the house.

Of course you should really opt for a dish with lobster or the local catch of the day. Finish with a sumptuous Italian desert and a real cafe latte. You cannot go far wrong in this restaurant.

Great service

The service is exemplary with real Italian flair. If we had any complaint it was the absence of chardonnay from the wine cellar, surely an obvious omission that could be easily remedied.

But for a wonderful lunch venue in these beautiful summery days in the Gulf, or for a dinner with a fabulous fountain floor show, this is a great place to eat.
