Qatar not to change visa rules after all

Posted on 21 April 2010 with 1 comment from readers

Qatar has decided not to introduce new rules that would have required 33 nations to obtain visas before arriving in the tiny Gulf State. The reversal of this unpopular move came after widespread lobbying by tourist and business organizations.

Visas are bought on arrival with minimum fuss on a credit card. However, the UAE makes no charge for its free visa on arrival for the same countries. Bahrain and Oman make a small charge for visas on arrival.

Qatar nationals are generally granted multi-year, multi-entry visas for their passports giving them full access to the country concerned. The sudden decision to impose visa restrictions caught many travellers unaware and caused a lot of concern, unnecessarily as it now turns out.

Smart move by reversing this visa thing. They would have kicked themselves in the rear pretty badly had they imposed such a rule. Definitely not a good thing for tourists and businessmen.
