Restaurant Review: Primavera, Italian fine dining, Ritz-Carlton Bahrain

The best in Italian fine dining is to be found at Prmavera in the Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain under the able guidance of Chef Chiristian Frigo, himself a native of Nothern Italy.
Relax into a comfortable corner of this homely restaurant and let the attentive staff spoil you with their good humour and knowledge about the menu. The ambience is warm and friendly, the view of the swimming pool from the window quite tranquil.
Nouvelle Italienne
The days when eating Italian meant heavy sauces and big bowls of pasta have long past. Today the accent is on smaller dishes that are big on flavour and presentation, and using only the finest ingredients.
Primavera is a restaurant of this school of Italian cuisine. Foie gras is not only popular in France and truffles are every bit as Italian as French. Combine the two and lightly pan-fry the foie gras and you have an exceptionally pleasant starter.
Naturally some pasta must follow. Perhaps a homemade ravioli stuffed with wild mushrooms in a light sauce or spaghetti to your own precise requirements.
It is a shame pork is off the menu. Chef Frigo explains that a few guests complained and it seemed only fair to respect their wishes. But many other Italian favorites are available from particularly succulent sea bass to milk-fed veal specially imported from the United States.
Well traveled ingredients
This restaurant will always go the extra mile to please and sometimes halfway round the world. Do not be afraid of setting a challenge. They will rise to it with enthusiasm.
The wine list is extensive and naturally the wise choice is Chianti from Tuscany in Italy, although there are many equally attractive alternatives on offer.
To finish this gourmet delight the deserts are surprisingly traditional from tiramasu to creme brulee, and rather larger than the main dishes. Then of course you have the full range of Italian coffees and degistifs to finish what can only be described as an excellent dinner.
But you will not be bursting at the seams in the manner of Italian meals of bygone times, not that this will make the meal any less memorable.
