Hotel review: join the film and rock stars at Opus Vancouver

When the stars check into Vancouver their destination is often the trendy boutique Opus hotel in the old dockland Yaletown district.
Yaletown is comparable to London’s Covent Garden or the Paris Left Bank with a huge range of restaurants, many with great terraces to catch the summer sunshine. But there are also curiosity shops and a lively nightlife in this district.
Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga was a recent guest in the Opus Vancouver in one of the two super-chic penthouse suites. Jennifer Lopez and other North American film stars also choose this hotel.
It’s easy to see why. The lobby is straight from the pages of a fashion magazine with bright colours and a touch of the avant garde.
In the evening both the restaurant downstairs and function room on the second floor can get very busy. The happening young scene wants to be here.
The 96 guest rooms feature five strong wall-colours, full-length windows and some have bathrooms that overlook the street below. Be careful to close the blinds or you will make an exhibition of yourself, unless you are Lady Gaga and do that for a living.
All the rooms are well equipped with Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and coffee machines. The staff are also very obliging and you have a complementary shoe shine service and really nothing is too much trouble.
Take a ride in the hotel’s BMW 7-Series for free within the Vancouver downtown area, or book the free hotel bicycles for a tour around the harbour path to the Stanley park.
Airport Metro
Getting to the Opus from the airport could also not be easier with the brand new Metro Yaletown-Roundhouse station just a few metres from the door. Stay environmentally sensitive while maximizing convenience.
Trip Advisor rated this hotel number one for business in Vancouver, though we would wonder how much business might get done with the distractions of Yaletown. Then again the business centre is provided with fully loaded Apple computers and you have a nice gym.
You can also easily walk to the main business district and entertain in style in the evening just by your hotel.

Excellent review of an excellent hotel – and I can attest to the accuracy of your report. I spent a couple of nights at the Opus about 5 years ago… I had arrived in Vancouver by train, from Seattle, and after having walked (burdened with a somewhat heavy bag and camera) from the train station up to the Yaletown district, I was so tired I wanted to drop. I spied the Opus Hotel at the end of the Yaletown street, walked in, got a room, and felt like I had died and gone to Heaven. I might add that the bed mattress was THE most comfortable mattress I’ve ever had the pleasure of sleeping on. Would like to add that in additon to the excellent cafes and bars in nearby Yaletown, there was also an excellent wine shop and reasonbly good cigar shop to be found nearby.
