Lunch at the Constance Lemuria Resort, The Seychelles

Relais and Chateaux member the Constance Lemuria Resort on Praslin Island in The Seychelles is one of the top hotels that originally won this destination its reputation for luxury, and that includes fine dining.
Our three course al fresco lunch overlooking the pool from a terrace perched above the tree tops celebrated my wife’s birthday in some considerable style, although we did not tell the hotel. There was no need, every meal is a celebration in this hotel.
Magic location
Perhaps it is partly the location. The Seychelles are a magic place with lush greenery and mountainous jungle terrain breaking out onto gorgeous sandy beaches. If dining is partly atmosphere then this is it.
Then again the Lemuria is a extremly pleasant resort with 96 suites and nine villas, all built from traditional local materials, including a palatial presidential villa, and with exterior lighting designed not to interfer with the turtles laying eggs on the beach.
For lunch we took international starters with fish gazpacho and a beef carpaccio, both imaculately presented and drizzled in the finest oils. The catch-of-the day made a light and flavorsome main course, cooked to perfection.
Deserts are rather more substantial. Chocolate cake covered in a brown crisp with lemon sorbet inside and raspberry sorbet on the side. A red currant creation with ice cream and extras.
Constance chain
It was all washed down with a half-bottle of chardonnary from Hermanus, a very nice wine district on the South African Garden Route. The Constance chain hails from South Africa and the influence is felt in the service as well as the choice of wine.
We thought it looked a very nice place to stay as well as eat. That way you would also get to try the Seahorse restaurant overlooking the 11th green of the golf course, and the main Legend restaurant with its dinner buffets and theme evenings.
If lunch was so good then dinner would doubtless be excellent. Still my wife enjoyed her birthday lunch overlooking this magnificent resort from the beach bar terrace, and it is always nice to be left hungry for more, although we could not manage much dinner after that spread.
